Originally from Southern California, John recently retired as Chief of Police from the City of Roseburg, Oregon. John grew up in Southern California where he attended high school and college before moving to the Pacific Northwest. He is a Vietnam veteran and served as a combat medic with the U.S. Army. His interest in juvenile law enforcement issues began when he was a detective and was assigned to investigate child abuse cases. While serving as police chief he formed the Roseburg Area Youth Services program to deal with crimes committed by youthful offenders. He headed Juvenile Crime and legislative issues for the Oregon Association of Chiefs of Police and received extensive training from the FBI at the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. He received the Max Patterson Award from OACP for his work with juvenile victims and offenders. He has served on the board of directors for Phoenix School, an alternative school for problem students. He has also served on the boards of United Way, Chamber of Commerce and Rotary International. He currently resides in Sammamish, Washington, and recently published his first book of fiction dealing with life in the 60’s in Newport Beach, California. John and his wife Judy have been married for 31 years. She is a Senior Vice President for PeaceHealth of Bellevue. They enjoy travel, entertaining and collecting wine. |
